Mechanical parking structures, where vehicles are parked in stalls that are stored on top of each other within the same structure and are placed there by mechanical means, rather than driving into the parking slot, have been identified in recent history by several different names and designations, such as, Enclosed Mechanical-Access Parking garages, Car stacking / Lift systems (SFFD AB 4.25), Car Stackers and Car Lifts.
